Plastic Pollution Coalition's guides for eateries and for eating out

A nonprofit communications and advocacy group with free guides on both sides of the counter: one for restaurants going plastic-free, one for diners doing the same on the go. Its one-page "refuse" sheet comes in ten languages.

Plastic Pollution Coalition is a global nonprofit that works mainly through communication: campaigns, films, and a library of short guides written for people who have decided to cut plastic and want to know what to do on Tuesday. Two of those guides are directly useful here.

Plastic-Free Eateries

Written for restaurants, cafés and bars. It sets out the changes a food business can make to go plastic-free as a checklist a manager can work through.

Guide to Plastic-Free On the Go

Written for diners: what to carry, what to ask for and what to refuse when eating away from home. It is a good companion to the checklist on this site for ordering takeout.

The one-sheet

The coalition's "Refuse Disposable Plastics" one-sheet (2021) is a single printable page listing the plastics most worth refusing and the alternatives. It is available in ten languages, which makes it useful for a restaurant with a multilingual staff or customer base.

About the organisation

The coalition frames plastic as a social-justice issue as well as an environmental one, and its site includes a section selling plastic-free goods. PLEET has no commercial relationship with it; the guides are linked because they are free and good.
