Terms of Use
These terms cover pleet.org and the Ocean Conscious Restaurants mobile app. By creating an account or using either, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
What PLEET is
PLEET is a directory of restaurants scored on specific environmental practices. Some of that information comes from restaurant owners, some from the Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Restaurants program, and some from people who have eaten there.
We publish it in good faith. We do not independently inspect restaurants, and we do not guarantee that any particular listing is complete, current, or correct. Treat it as a guide, not a certification of our own.
Your account
You must be at least 13 years old. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it.
You can delete your account at any time — see Deleting your account.
Content you post
You keep ownership of the ratings and comments you write. By posting them you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to display and distribute them as part of the service, including in the mobile app.
Only post things you have the right to post, and only claim things you actually observed.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content
There is zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour. You may not post anything that is:
- abusive, hateful, harassing, or threatening
- obscene, or sexually explicit
- defamatory, or knowingly false about a business or a person
- spam, advertising, or an attempt to manipulate a restaurant's score
- unlawful, or an infringement of someone else's rights
We remove content that breaks these rules and we suspend or terminate accounts that post it. We do not require a warning first.
Reporting and blocking
Every comment in the app and on the website can be reported. Reports are confidential and are reviewed by a person, usually within 24 hours. See Report content.
You can also block another user, which hides everything they have written from you across the service. Reporting and blocking are separate — you can do either or both.
Restaurant listings and claims
If you own or manage a restaurant you can claim its listing. Claims are reviewed before they are approved, and you must have a verified email address to file one. Claiming a listing does not give you control over ratings other people have left.
Do not claim a business you are not authorised to represent.
The Surfrider Foundation
Certification data is sourced from the Surfrider Foundation's Ocean Friendly Restaurants program. Any Surfrider names and marks belong to the Surfrider Foundation, and their appearance here does not imply that they endorse anything else we do.
Availability
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service. We try not to break things, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability.
Disclaimer and liability
The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for anything arising from your reliance on a restaurant listing.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms. You may stop using the service at any time by deleting your account.
Changes
If we change these terms we will update the date at the top of this page and note it in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms.
