World Centric

A compostable foodware supplier that has been a certified B Corp since 2010, holds BPI and FSC certifications, and gives a quarter of its profits to environmental and social causes. One of the clearer choices if a kitchen needs compostables at all.

World Centric makes and sells compostable cups, plates, clamshells, cutlery and bags for food service. It is on this page because it meets the criteria PLEET applies to any supplier it lists: independent certification of the products, and independent certification of the company. PLEET has no commercial relationship with World Centric, takes no payment for this page, and recommends reusables over any disposable, compostable or not.

Credentials

  • Certified B Corp since 2010, recertified in 2025. B Corp certification is a third-party assessment of a company's governance, workers, community and environmental practices.
  • BPI-certified compostable products, searchable in BPI's catalogue.
  • FSC certification for its fibre products, meaning the paper and pulp come from responsibly managed forests.
  • A member of 1% for the Planet, and the company states that it gives 25% of its profits away.

How to buy well

A supplier's catalogue contains products at every level of the preference order described on the labels page in this section. Within World Centric's range, choose certified compostable items, check each product in BPI's catalogue before ordering in bulk, and confirm with your hauler that the facility accepts them. Use compostables only where reusables are impossible, which for most restaurants means takeout.
